In my post written 7 months ago, I gave an update on our son's birth parents. We still have not seen them. The birth mother has asked for an open communication agreement. We are thrilled that she will be a part of our lives and hope that she will keep in touch via email, as the agreement proposes. The birth father has been located. He has been served his termination papers and is now in default.
Until last week, it had been 11 months since anyone had heard from the birth father and 13 months since the birth mother has seen our boy. Neither of them has seen him walk or heard him talk. They dont know that we've changed his name. They dont know that he's incredibly funny and that he's been obsessed with balls for the past year. They do not know that he can shoot a basketball better than any 4-year-old or that he's in the 12th percentile for weight. They dont know that he has to sleep with three blankies or that he loves to eat vegetables and smoked salmon.
The good news is that we can adopt our boy! The bad news is that two people have lost rights to their child.
I'm not sure why they haven't been involved. We may never know.
All I know is how lucky I am to have such a sweet boy. We know that we have a huge responsibility to raise this boy. We know that God has put him in our home, in our lives, and made this permanent for a reason.
If I could talk to them today I would tell them that this child is very special and my husband and I will give him the best life we possibly can. He will always know that he is loved.
